Upcoming Actions

Friday, February 17 at 4 pm we will meet at the U.S. Bank in Rice Lake for a demonstration in front of the bank to protest their funding of the Dakota Access Pipeline. Indigenous leaders are currently calling for supporters to join them in Standing Rock, but have also encouraged other groups who aren’t able to make the trip to make this week a week of action! Here is the link to the Facebook event: https://www.facebook.com/events/1292234944190100/ Feel free to bring signs and/or dress up to show your support!
Saturday, February 18 at 4 pm we will meet in Somerset at the St. Croix National Golf Course and Event Center (1603 32nd Street, Somerset, WI 54025) Sean Duffy and Scott Walker are both ‘supposedly’ going to be present at an event there beginning at 4:30 and Walker is supposed to be there until 6 PM. We aren’t sure if we will be allowed in or on the grounds of the event center, but our plan is to stand with signs on the bridge above Highway 64. Martha will hopefully be able to get there a bit early and scope the place out to find a good spot to stand. Her phone number is 763-486-3718 – feel free to call if you can’t spot the group upon your arrival! The weather is supposed to be PERFECT so it should be a good time! Bring signs focused around the issues the steering committee has identified as being our group’s top priorities. Check the news as the event approaches and see what votes are coming up and what Duffy and Walker are focused on and plan your signage around those issues. Make it large and simple to read from a bridge or from a car driving by.

Sunday, February 19 (time unconfirmed) Scott Walker may or may not be at the Lodge in Siren during the evening hours. The Lodge won’t confirm that he is attending and will not give times for this event. Walker’s people insist that he will not be there (so we’ve heard so far). Folks have been talking about having a presence at the park across the street from the Lodge, but given the lack of confirmation and information in general, we are not planning anything at this time for this event. If someone wishes to organize a group anyways, please do and let us know and we will get the word out.
As far as other events next week:
We are having trouble nailing down schedules for everyone home on recess next week. So far, we have only one scheduled meeting with a representative of Sean Duffy, in Hudson, WI on February 22 at 11 am. We will be gathering a small group for this meeting, if you are interested in joining, please let us know. The topic is Dodd-Frank (that was the only request that they responded to).
We’d like to schedule more meetings, so please call the offices of Ron Johnson, Sean Duffy, and Tammi Baldwin and ask for the schedule of events the legislators will be attending during their time in-state. Demand meetings and townhall meetings! It is their job to do these!
Indivisible has put out a great guide for what to do with missing congresspeople. Check it out here: https://www.indivisibleguide.com/resources-2/2017/2/12/missing-members-of-congress-action-plan

**If you are able to obtain any information about townhall meetings or events these folks will be attending, please let us know so we can organize and get there!**
At least two cities in Wisconsin are holding their own townhall meetings and have invited Ron Johnson to attend. One is in Middleton, the other is in Green Bay. Johnson has not confirmed whether he will be attending or not. Hopefully it’s negative press for him either way! Marceleen and Martha would be interested in potentially carpooling with a group down to the Middleton event. If anyone else is also interested, please respond to this email. The event information is here: https://www.facebook.com/events/887785784694767/
Thank you,
Martha & The Steering Committee
P.S. We got word that neither Johnson nor Duffy support further investigations of Flynn. 5call.org has the scripts and numbers to make the calls on this (and other hot issues).

  1. According to a woman that I spoke to at the Lodge in Siren, Walker will be at a banquet there at 7 pm, Sunday, Feb. 19. There is a sport show at the Lodge Sunday also, from noon-4 pm and open to the public.
