Beginning something new is always an effort in balance, learning, and adjustment. It is sometimes filled with growing pains and even disappointment in visions not living up to reality. But, with persistence and patience, the new thing will take shape and become something of value.
I ask all of you out there striving to start something new in the civic engagement arena, be it making calls to your law makers or gathering people together, to be patient. To be kind and trusting of one another. To remember that this newness may be scary for more than just you… and that we should create a space for people to feel vulnerable and supported.
If you’re new to the group from Polk and Burnett counties organizing to mobilize – welcome. Keep in mind that is just the kind of space we’re striving to carve out. A space where respect is paramount and action is key.
